Overview & Description
The visit to the Lapidarium Museum will consist of a guided tour through the museum’s permanent exhibition.
It consists of architectural elements (door sills, lintels, openwork window panels, coats of arms, etc.) and liturgical inventory (altar plates, ciboria fragments, pilasters, capitals, etc.), originating from between the 1st and the 18th century.
Highlights
The Lapidarium Museum contains a permanent collection of archaeological remains – mostly pre-Romanesque stone works from the Novigrad ex-cathedral. The fragments of the inventory are stunning, featuring delicately carved intertwining patterns, familiar Christian symbols, and an array of animals and mythical beasts. Particular attention is drawn to the Mauritius Ciborium, one of the rare, wholly preserved early medieval ciboriums in Europe.
