The ecomuseum “Batana” is unique in the Adriatic and the Mediterranean. It is dedicated to the traditional wooden boat batana and the community that chose it as its symbol. As the most widespread traditional boat in Rovinj-Rovigno, the batana reflects the continuity of local maritime heritage, as well as the continuity of everyday life of the local population. It is a unique and precious link that connects local residents of various ethnicities, primarily Italian, now a minority, and the majority Croatian.
The Ekomuzej-Ecomuseo “Batana” is registered in UNESCO’s Register of Best Practices for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the world.
